Adoption Baby Showers For Infant and Older Child Adoption

While a baby shower is a traditional part of celebrating the arrival of a new baby, many people aren’t sure whether or not an adoption baby showers would be an appropriate idea. There is nothing wrong with having one of these celebrations if you are adopting, although depending on the age of the new arrival your baby adoption shower may need to be a little non-traditional.

Having a Baby Shower Adoption for Older Children

Adopting older children isn’t as hyped as international adoptions today but giving a loving home to these children is almost more special because they are very in need of loving parents and a caring extended family. Having a celebration for the parents and the new child is a good idea but you’ll want to alter the baby shower so it’s not quite the same as it would have been for an infant. This celebration should be about showing the child exactly how excited the circle of loved ones is to have this new child in the family.

Instead of baby gifts, family and friends can purchase toys or other items appropriate for your new family member’s age. You can still have a cake and other refreshments, too. However, you may not want to have the same type of baby shower games at your adopted baby shower for older kids that you would for an infant. Instead, skip the games and focus on giving everyone a chance to mingle and be introduced to your new child. Consider keeping the guest list small so your child does not feel overwhelmed.

The Adoption Baby Showers for Babies

Make sure to include information about the adoption in the baby shower invitations you send out. For example, you might want to change the wording a little. Instead of adding the birth weight and height which you might not know, you can include information you do, such as the baby’s birth location. This would not be the place to include any information you know about the birth parents, however. Consider including both the date of birth and the date of adoption on the invitations or announcements.

Remember that you can play games and have refreshments at this adoption baby showers. Also, you should consider scheduling the event for after the baby arrives in its new home. Keep in mind that there is always the risk of delays with both biological and adoptive deliveries so waiting until after the baby is in your arms to throw the shower is a wise idea. Plus, people can see your new arrival with their own eyes.

Throwing a child adoption baby showers can also be a great way of getting the items you’re going to need to help welcome your child into your home. You’ll probably need new baby clothes, furniture, accessories, and plenty of other items. Remember that whether you’re adopting a child or a baby, you are bringing a new family member home who may not be yours biologically but will always be yours emotionally.

Cranial Infant Corrective Helmet – Are They Kidding?

There has been a patent issued for a cranial infant corrective device, or helmet, for children with plagiocephaly (flattening of the cranium or head). Plagiocephaly can occur from the lay of the baby during pregnancy or the labor and delivery. The head becomes flattened on one side. Plagiocephaly can also occur from having the baby sleep on the same spot on the head. Many babies have a flattening of the skull in the back of the head or on one side of the head.

The patent was issued on July 15, 2003 for a helmet for the baby to wear putting pressure on the skull in various areas to reshape the skull! These are like being in a Frankenstein movie! To subject a baby to wear this archaic helmet, is to me, so ridiculous. I have seen so many babies and NEVER EVER had any problem with the head reshaping itself with chiropractic adjustments realigning the atlas and occiput (base of the skull and first vertebra of the neck), and chiropractic cranial or osteopathic cranial adjustments. The very activity of breastfeeding will help to move the skull bones in the right way to return the skull bones back to normalcy. The skull bones move when the baby breast feeds properly. To be honest this to me is horrifying!

The theory is that the bones are malleable until about 6 months when the bones begin to fuse. That is not the true physiology. If the bones fused the baby would die. The cranial bones are designed with sutures to move to pump the cerebral spinal fluid.

Does anyone study physiology and anatomy anymore? The skull bones do not fuse.

FYI-when midwives were delivering babies exclusively decades ago, they wouldn’t leave the birth until the baby’s head looked symmetrical and the baby was sucking and nursing properly. They did cranial and adjustments on the babies before they left the birth. They kept very bad notes and didn’t pass on their tech and what they did was lost. However, you can see a picture of a Mayan in a cave doing an intracranial adjustment on an infant about 5 or 6 months old on my website, http://www.healthyanswersonline.com by pulling up the archived newsletter for June 12, 2006. I think if the Mayans were doing this, then what I and my chiropractic colleagues are doing must have some merit!

Don’t put a helmet on your kids. Get chiropractic care and cranial adjustments and you will see a change on the first visit, and certainly after the natural correction has been made. Just fixing the outside to make it look good, doesn’t fix the inside and what has been altered because of the jammed or flattened sutures. Correct the problem, and the baby will not have repercussions from the physiological changes associated with the plagiocephaly.
